31/12/07
Well, its the end of the year, yet another milestone, and although this isn't really news I would just like to say a big " THANK YOU " to all those friends who have helped me through the year again, but especially Tracey, Mike and Marion in the UK (for being there for me when I have needed to 'rant' !!) and to Monica in Sweden, a new-found friend with whom I share SO much common ground, and who has 'been there' for me in the last few weeks when the going has been considerably tough. You, my family and many others mean the world to me, and even though our lives are fast and furious and it seems like we have no time for each other, I do know that we all would do our utmost to help each other when the going should get tough, and that's what makes us such good mates. Here's to a happy, healthy and sometimes successful 2008,for all of us !!!! Before the year is over I have attempted to put the a few things straight with regard to information about my dogs on the Swedish Aones website on my Getting Personal page...all rights reserved.......... ;-)) 11/12/07 Today Monica sent me some more photos of Tony and his immediate family, and I would like to share one of them with you in particular....it shows his father, Colin, SWSHCH DKSHCH NSHCH NORDSHCH JEUW-06 SW-06 Manaca's Beat about the Bush in the middle of Liliann, Sandy Williams' blue bitch and my Tony. I really love this photo, and I am hoping that Tony grows into as beautiful a specimen as his Dad , shown in the other photo below....
8/12/07 Ladies Kennel Association -the last championship show of the year, and our dogs did well again for us.... In Cockers, Dora (C.CASTANETTE) won the Puppy bitch class and Sonja (MANACAS UNDESINGNED DREAM) was 3rd in Open Bitch under breed specialist Doug Telford, and in PBGV, CHARBONNEL COCO won Junior Bitch under breed specialist Gavin Robertson. Congrats to Mike and Zak for winning the Cocker Dog C.C., a pleasing end of the year win for him !
Earlier
in
the
week
I
was
notified
by
the
Basset
Hound
Club
of
Wales
that
I
had
passed
their
written
breed
specific
examination
with
a
DISTINCTION
pass
of
92%.....you
can
guess
I
was
pleased.!!
I
also
passed
the
judging
part
of
the
exam.
6/12/07 Hannah rushed off to school today one year older...HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY MY LOVE !!! Little OSCAR thought it was great fun ripping up her wrapping paper !!! Good luck in your new home little one.....
04/12/07 London Cocker Spaniel Society were celebrating their 75th Anniversary last weekend, and they put on a very well-run show, with super specials, rosettes, prizes and free gifts, plus an excellent raffle. We had
the pleasure
of Monica's
company as
she was over
here to see
Sonja's pups
and make
some final
decisions,
and she
brought our
kennel some
GOOD LUCK as
CHARBONNEL
CASTANETTE
not only won
her class,
Best Puppy
Bitch and
BPIS, but
the points
she gained
also brought
her total
points for
her Junior
Warrant to
27, 2 more
than she
needs !!! So
we are
justly
proud.
Dear
little
Sonja,
Monica's
Su(U)Ch,N.Ch,Nord
W-06,SvCh
Manaca's
Undesingned
Dream
came 2nd
to
Michael
and
Brian's
bitch in
Open.....I
felt so
proud of
her,
knowing
that she
has 10
pups at
home who
she had
done
such a
good job
of
rearing,
with
Lulu's
help
(!!) and
still
keeping
such a
good
figure
and
super
coat,
what a
star she
is......
The photo shows her moving round the ring ...unfortunately the lighting at the venue was rather 'orange' so it tends to throw the colours a bit...but it doesn't detract from her excellent drive and front reach, so lacking in so many, and that active tail and strong topline......I was never under any allusions when bringing her out, I know that there are not many judges out there who will stick their neck out and place a dog with a tail over another docked animal when it comes to the higher classes, but I am exceptionally proud of Sonja and anyone who has the pleasure of knowing her will agree that she is a delightful little character.
Trudi
Anslow
was
making
her
debut
with
CHARBONNEL
RINGLETTE
in Minor
Puppy
Bitch,
and I'm
proud to
say that
she was
shortlisted
into the
last 7
in a
good
class .
Debbie
must
have
been the
youngest
at 6
months
and one
day too
! Well
done
Trudi !!
27/11/07 The horses have been busy....not the best time of year to have youngsters around, but we have had 2 new arrivals !! One is from our very popular ride and drive pony Bonnie - she is the one entrusted to take Martin, Hannah, Charlotte and Amy to the pub (just for a coke !!) and round the block in the cart on warm summer evenings. A saint of a pony.....
17/11/07 What's better than winning any award, any accolade, any prize with a dog....??? In my opinion its the feeling you get from showing a beautiful dog who is happy, merry, sound and confident......and today I have to thank SONJA for the pleasure of her company in the ring at Coventry Cocker Spaniel Club. A wonderful little dog to show, and a great credit to Monica, her true owner and breeder, and the bloodlines behind her.
I would like
to thank all
those people
who said
such kind
things about
her
condition,
her
temperament
and her tail
(!!!!!),ever-wagging
that it was,
and to my
friend Mike
who made me
cry on the
way home
with his
kindest of
texts, and
most of all
SONJA, who
showed her
little heart
out to come
2nd in Open
Bitch behind
Mike and
Brian's
Ambrogina,
who is
presently
Top Cocker.
The judge,
Liz
Cartledge,
one of the
UK's top
all-rounders,
was very
complimentary
about her,
and Dora, I
have to add,
who won her
class too,
so we were
very happy
with the
day.
For the
first time
ever Ian
Scott forgot
to put film
in his
camera for a
photo after
the class
(and he
tells me he
is on film
960 !!!),so
Mike very
kindly stood
his bitch
again for us
later to get
a shot of
the 2
bitches
together, so
hopefully
we'll have a
photo
soon....
13/11/07 Well, it's been a bit cold here today, but nothing like Sweden!! Monica phoned from her home there this morning to say that she had had a great time taking photos of the dogs in what was about 18 inches (about half a metre !!) of snow.... As I said, the UK would grind to a halt and declare a state of emergency if we had that much snow overnight !! She took some photos of Tony enjoying his first taste of 'the white stuff ' and this is the best one...he's moving too fast in the others !!
4/11/07 Another good day for Dora, winning all 3 of her classes and being declared BPIS at Midland CSC Open show under judge elect Fred Hawkins (Grovern). She now has 21 points towards her Junior Warrant already, having won 6 of her 9 Minor Puppy classes at championship shows. She has also been 2nd twice and 4th once at the other 3, so we are VERY pleased with her progress.

3/11/07
Dora was again declared Best Puppy Bitch and also won Best Minor Puppy in Show today at Rotherham CSC Championship show, under Duncan Craig (Alisma). Thank you to the kind exhibitor who came over after the lap of honour to say that Dora looked beautiful....such words mean more than any amount of prizes !!!
28/10/07
Thank you to judge Elinor Millard for awarding Dora with Best Puppy Bitch at the Solid Colours CSC Championship show today. We are SO thrilled with this little bitch's achievements in her short life so far - lets hope it continues !!! 21/10/07 After an eventful and tiring week we 'chilled' at North Wales Cocker Spaniel Club open show, where Roger Williams, Wilmerella, was judging. Not a huge entry, but the usual kind welcome from Glyn and his 'harem' !!!! We only took one of our 4 entries, little Dora for Minor Puppy bitch, and we're very pleased that she was awarded Best Puppy in Show. Congrats too to Jane and David and SwCh.Manaca's High on the Hog, (Swedish tracking champion) for their super BIS win, and to Jessica and Polly, aka CHARBONNEL LANDGIRL AT MOLLNME, for winning BOS in show. (See Health News for Polly's excellent hip score results) 19/10/07 Belated news I'm afraid....it has been much more important to care for the pups than it has been to write about them !! Dear Swedish Sonja gave birth to 10 beautiful black pups by our handsome young dog CHARBONNEL WAR HERO last week, and as Lulu whelped the day before she helped to lighten the load for her by taking on 2 of them, along with her 5. Such a testament to the temperaments of these 2 bitches that they are not only sharing their whelping quarters but their pups too. Here are a few photos of the devoted mums, and step-mums, with their broods.....
9/10/07 Please visit TONY's PAGE to see the brilliant photo Monica sent me of Tony's father and 'auntie' when they swept the board in Norway last week...Well done Yvette on Colins NORDIC CHAMPION title!
Today thanks and CONGRATULATIONS
to Marjut Kakko for news of her
successes at the Finnish Spaniel
Association
annual show with our Teddy's son
Margate Gordon Bennet who was
BOB-puppy under Mr. Silva from
Portugal. Marjut was even more
thrilled when Mr. Bob Jackson
(kennel Mompesson, UK ) chose
him as BIS-puppy ...what
a wonderful start to his show
career !!
6/10/07 I am presently having BIG problems with my computer, and I have lost all emails I have saved recently from people interested in the PBGV's and cocker pups. If you have emailed/phoned me in the last month or two showing a serious interest in either of my breeds, or in having a puppy at some stage, would you please either email me again, or phone me on 0791 9911779.
Many thanks.......
15/9/07 A local championship show in Cocker Spaniel Club of Lancashire's event today....proud to say that all 3 of our bitches won their classes under breed specialist June Parkin (Mistfall), with little Dora (C.CASTANETTE) winning her fourth 1st prize from 5 shows and Best Minor Puppy In Show. 13/9/07 We're pleased to announce the arrival of CHARBONNEL WAR HERO's first litter, out of CHARBONNEL FAIR ROUGE - one dog and 5 bitches !! They are FN and PRA clear by parentage, and both parents also have low hip scores.
2/9/07 The judge at City of Birmingham Champ show was Mrs. Val Foss (Elswood) and the Charbonnel's and their progeny didn't have a bad day all in all ........
Little Dora, CHARBONNEL CASTANETTE, won another
Minor Puppy Bitch class, this time from 17
entries, so we were justly proud. STARLETTE won
a quality Limit bitch class, and WAR HERO won a
creditable 2nd in Junior Dog. Lindsey's C.FAIR
FLAIR won 2 VHC's, and Tina Beswicks C.PAULETTE
was short-listed in the Minor puppy bitch
class.
INTERLORD's daughter Lochranza All That Jazz was
2nd in Junior bitch and DOUBLE DUTCH'S daughter
Pendledell Vienna was 3rd in a class of 16 puppy
bitches
26/8/07 Congrats to those with Charbonnel progeny who exhibited at Scottish Kennel Club under Mr K Wilberg (Kanix): Jean, John and Lou's INTERLORD daughter Lochranza All That Jass who won the Novice Bitch class and DOUBLE DUTCH'S sons Nicibec Now U Tell Me (Craigs) who was 3rd in MPD and Kelbonny Go Dutch (Flowers) who was 2nd in Junior dog. Congratulations to my BoB at The Spaniel and Retriever Show, Tangahed - Lena & Kenneth Norlund's beautiful black bitch SU(u) Ch Matchpoints Where You Belong - for winning BIS under Frank Bjerklund (Westway).
19/8/07 No BIG wins to report, but some successes of note at Welsh Kennel Club :
Harry's daughter Pendledell Vienna won a strong Puppy
bitch class, and our Harry daughter C.Castanette (
'Dora') was 2nd in a big Minor Puppy Bitch class.
Charbonnel Landgirl, Fair Flair and Starlette all won
reserves in well-filled classes.
Highlight of the day - seeing the red kites flying over
Rhaeadr - check out

15/8/07
I made a new friend in Sweden !!!!
04/08/07
Well, little Dora, CHARBONNEL CASTANETTE, made her debut
today at the National Gundog Ch. Show under bitch judge
Michael Parkinson. How proud we were that she won a
class of 14 Minor Puppy bitches WHEN ONLY 6 MONTHS AND 1
DAY !!! What a little star...she showed like she'd done
it SO many times before, when in truth she had only been
to one night at training classes, when she'd spent most
of the time trying to chew a Great Danes tonsils !!
All in all we didn't have a bad day, with Jack (WAR HERO) winning 2nd in Maiden (showing himself so well, and moving out so powerfully, he is a true stallion of a dog) and Babs (STARLETTE) was 2nd in Limit bitch. A day of 'seconds' ....................
Our dogs progeny did quite well, with Tracey's INTERLORD
son Quintavia Time Lord winning 2nd in Under Grad,
another son, Carol Share-Jones' Sharemead Squadron
Leader winning 2nd in Junior Dog and Lou, John and
Jean's Teddy daughter L.All That Jazz winning 2nd in
Maiden out of 14,while still a puppy.
June and Bill Henderson's DOUBLE DUTCH daughter Pendledell Vienna was 5th in a class of 20 Puppy bitches, which was pleasing, but faded into insignificance when they won their 1st C.C. with their homebred dog Pendledell Salvatore later in the day. Lesley Spencer also won her first C.C. with a bitch with her Castanea Sweet Surrender. WELL DONE TO YOU ALL!! 1) CHARBONNEL CASTANETTE, BY C.DOUBLE DUTCH x SH.CH.C.FRANKETTE, WINNING MINOR PUPPY BITCH.....
2) INTERLORD'S SON QUINTAVIA TIME LORD - 2ND IN UNDERGRADUATE DOG....
3) PENDLEDELL VIENNA, A DOUBLE DUTCH DAUGHTER, 5TH IN
PUPPY BITCH.....
4) NICIBEC NOW U TELL ME, A DOUBLE DUTCH SON, UNPLACED IN MINOR PUPPY DOG.....
Photos courtesy: Marion Sweeney - many thanks Marion!! 01/08/07 Well, she is now part of our family !!! SwShCh NUCH NORDW-06 SVCH Manaca's Undesingned Dream, or 'little Sonja' as we call her, has settled in really well and no-one would know that she hasn't lived here all of her short life ......it is a testament to her breeding that she has travelled from Sweden by car with Lea, staying at Lea's kennels on the way, and then travelled again by car to us, and just fits in, tail wagging the whole time. She took part in our 'educational weekend' just 36 hours after arriving here and strutted her stuff for 4 different 'pupils', giving them a glimpse of her 'showgirl' outlook.
When Monica visited us after the Cocker Club she kindly took some photos of our dogs, and we have put them on the respective dogs pages... One of them does not have her own page yet, so here is a photo of Lyn's gold daughter by Harry, as yet un-named..........
22/7/07 Our cockers had a good day at a muddy Leeds Championship Show....
Well done to Jessica Kelly and CHARBONNEL LANDGIRL TO
MOLLNME (WAR HERO's sister) who won Junior and Novice
bitch and Lindsay Norris and CHARBONNEL FAIR FLAIR who was
3rd in Junior Bitch.
Tracey's young blue CHARBONNEL DO'S'N'DON'TS was VHC in the MPB class and QUINTAVIA TIMELORD (CHARBONNEL INTERLORD X CHARBONNEL WILD CHILD AT Q) was 2nd in Under Grad dog. June and Bill Hendersons black C.DOUBLE DUTCH daughter, PENDLEDELL VIENNA was 2nd in a Puppy Bitch Class of 17 pups, and Val and Colin Flowers DOUBLE DUTCH son KELBONNY GO DUTCH had to be content with a reserve in Novice Dog after some very creditable wins recently. Kelly and Ginny were VHC in Under Grad. 21/7/07 Congrats to Kelly Simmonds for winning Special Beginners at London Cocker Open Show with Ginny -CHARBONNEL PROMISES OF KELADITY 18/7/07 Our dogs had a good day today at East of England Championship show , thanks to judge Sandra Williams (Wilmerella) WAR HERO won both his classes, BLACK DOVE, his sister, had 2 2nds in good classes, and STARLETTE won a strong Limit class. Congratulations must go to Louise Wilding and John and Jean Gillespie for their Best Puppy Bitch with INTERLORD's daughter LOCHRANZA ALL THAT JAZZ, and to Jane and David Pop and Monica Forsander for their BPIB with SvCh MANACA'S HIGH ON THE HOG.
15/7/07
The Cocker Club show came round very quickly again this year. Our dogs had a successful day, our proudest moment being with Frankie...Not only did he win BVIS, but he was also shortlisted for the C.C. by judge Jennifer Lloyd -Carey (Of Ware and Falconers) alongside our gold export INT.CH.CHARBONNEL DESERT GOLD, owned by Danielle and Patrice Raquin of France, who won Open Red/Gold/Liver Dog.
In the bitch ring, Tracey's young blue CHARBONNEL DO'S'N'DON'TS
(Roxy) won a strong well-filled AOC Puppy bitch class. Photo
shows her in the garden at home.....
Frankie LOVES the Cocker Spaniel Club Championship show !!! 11/7/07 We are proud and honoured that Monica Forsander of the Manaca's kennel in Sweden will be entrusting us with the care of her beautiful bitch Sonja, officially known as:
SwShCh NShCH NORDW-06 SVCH Manaca's
Undesingned Dream
I had the pleasure of judging Sonja last year, and found her to be
all I love in a cocker bitch, and that super-active tail and true
cocker temperament just shone through....to see her come into the
Gundog group under a spotlight at that International show was just a
sight to behold, with her head up and tail swathing from side to
side, and so we are thrilled that Monica wants to use one of our
dogs on her.
She is by an English dog, Sw.Ch.Quettadene Lancelot, and her dam is grand-daughter to the multi-titled Northworth Madmans Return. With A hips, Optigen A1 status and clear FN status by parentage Sonja is of equal status to our own cockers, and so we hope for an exciting litter from her in the future....
We hope to show Sonja too, as she SO enjoys the attention, so we
should have some fun with her while she is here.
Please visit Sonja's page at the Manaca's site
here.
(select the "bitches" option from the menu and then Manca's
Undesigned Dream)
29/6/07 We have 3 little crackers, and it's not even Christmas.........
19/6/07 Our up-and-coming youngster CHARBONNEL WAR HERO (Jack) was Best Puppy in Breed today at the Cheshire Agricultural Show, under judge Grace Morris (Syrmor). He is a real chip of the old block, having Frankie's wonderful gentlemanly nature, quiet and yet full of exuberance when required. The ring was just not big enough for him, this lad likes to motor ! He has come on in leaps and bounds, so we hope he will be an exciting prospect for the future......
12/6/07 BAD NEWS from the Czech Republic - Pavel Sulcek has had 2 golden cockers stolen :
They are the 17 months old golden dog Cowboy z Vejminku, Tattoo.No.: 32825 and the 11 months golden bitch Francis z Vejminku Tattoo.No.: 33081. Both Tattoos are very easily read, both in the right ear, and in green ink.
Please pass this news on to anyone you think may be able to help, or who lives in or near the Czech Republic. Thank you.........
27/5/07 Congratulations to Christina Daniels, Sweden, on winning 4th best bitch under Tord Lundborg today at Alvesta. Hoping for an updated photo soon....... 20/05/07 News in from the Hanson family in Belgium at Namur (B) CACIB Show where judge Mr Laurent Pichard (Very Vigie) awarded their CHARBONNEL SUZETTE, Blondie, 1st Excellent and the CACIB.13/05/07 Today at the Belgian English Cocker Club National Show (61 dogs entered), the judge Mr Mark Boswell (UK) awarded CHARBONNEL SUZETTE, owned by the Hansons, 1st Excellent and the CAC. Well done Team Belgium !!!! Judges comments : « Super bitch, worthy champion, sweetest of heads, good neck and shoulders, good ear placement, correct legs and feet, short coupled, moved and showed well » The photo shows the BOB Ch Symbiosis Classic Design and Best Bitch Ch Charbonnel Suzette – Photo by Haja van Wessem.
12/5/07 A big THANK YOU to Margarita in Utah, USA for sending me some photos of her CHARBONNEL WAR GAMES, taken at the National Specialty. I am really pleased to see how well he is progressing. If he is anything like his father, Warlord, he will mature steadily and beautifully !!! 'Peter' is tested FN clear and has 2 Optigen A1 parents.
![]() 21/5/07 The English Cocker Spaniel Club of America have now launched their new list of Optigen FN -tested cockers, as planned. Well done to our counterparts in the USA for their honesty and openness.

Congrats to Tracey and Chelsea for winning Best Dog with Quintavia Time Lord (Charbonnel Interlord x Charbonnel Wild Child at Q)at NW Cts Spaniel yesterday, and for their 5th with little Roxy, Charbonnel Do's 'n' Don'ts (first time out ?). Lindsay and Liz also won a 3rd with Charbonnel Fair Flair avec Amaranth.
I had car problems over the weekend, which meant that we had 2 very relaxing days, culminating in a visit to a 2 star rabbit show yesterday...
How interesting it was to talk to some very laid-back people about their hobby, and to watch the judging taking place. It was the stewards job to take the rabbit out of its cage and present it to the judge on the table, the owners just had to sit and watch - some weren't even watching, just chatting and drinking tea !! I hadn't realised that the rabbits actually had to be stood in a particular way. Each specific breed characteristic/conformational point was scored, with only 10 points available for coat...
Just a couple of snapshots :
18/5/07 We had a little play with Dora today, as she is now 12 weeks old - she is Flora's daughter by Harry, and very much like her Mum in make and shape, but not as quiet and peace-loving as Flora. In fact she's a little hoodlum, but we love her to bits !! She is great on the lead, a real little show-off..... She was happy to stand still for 2 minutes, no more, but the sun was low and in her eyes. We're looking forward to bringing her out later in the year, if she continues to progress....
Marjut from Finland sent us this photo of the little bitch she is keeping from her AI litter by our Interlord. She looks to be a promising, upstanding baby - so much stature for one so young. I hope she continues to grow in this vein. Both Marjut and I know that the tail should not be held like this....it was just a case of "Quick, take the photo...before she moves !! "
I have a small announcement to make today. Well, today is as good a day as any, this is not so important (only to me probably), but here goes :
As I have said before, I have been quite open about the fact that Frankie, Warlord, is an FN carrier. The fact that he has one copy of this mutation does not make him any less more beautiful or perfect to me. He will always be a special dog, and he has produced some quality cockers for me and others. However, now that the FN test is available and breeders have been testing their bitches, I have been approached by others who want to use him at stud on FN clear bitches. I have decided that I cannot make him available to outside bitches again as I am concerned about the future of those carriers sold on as pets, who, although their registrations may be endorsed, could be bred from and sold either unregistered or Dog Lovers UK registered, a growing trend unfortunately, and that the problem could be perpetuated. I do not want breeders 20 years hence to be saying," Well, she knew the dog was a carrier, but let people use him, and now we have an even bigger problem than before" This is not the legacy I wish to leave behind me when I go (to heaven/hell !!! ) Especially after all the work that I put in with the hope of eradicating the disease, it would not seem right..... So, to those who have approached me, who I have had to turn down, I do apologise, but PLEASE understand that it is nothing personal .....just my heart and head working together for once, for the good of the breed hopefully. Thank you for your understanding..... 15/5/07 Our four dogs, Warlord, Roulette, Double Dutch and Interlord all had their clinical eye tests today and passed. The eye specialist in question was Mr John Mould of Leominster who was very kind with the dogs and didn't mind my incessant questions at all. There's nothing more satisfying than coming across a professional in any sphere who doesn't mind imparting their knowledge to someone less qualified and who doesn't talk 'down', rather seems to want to help, encourage and educate and Mr Mould did come into that category. The dogs just sat and enjoyed the attention....typical males !!! 14/5/07 Please click here to download the latest Maddie poster showing her distinctive eye pigment. 10/5/07
It is now a week since little Madeleine McCann was abducted from her holiday apartment in Portugal. She is thought to have been spotted in Spain with 3 adults earlier this week, so I am asking anyone who has friends or relatives in Spain to send this poster of Madeleine with contact phone number to them asking them to print it out and display it somewhere prominent. Also, if you yourselves live in Spain maybe you could help in the same way ?? What anguish her parents must be going through, it's unimaginable......
7/5/07 As always the North West Canine Associations show was very well supported, all proceeds going to under-privileged children. The £100 for Best in Show equalled CRUFTS top award !!! We were thrilled that our beagle bitch pup CHARBONNEL RAFIA was awarded Best Puppy in Breed under Karen Higgins (Karezig) and went on to win the Hound Puppy Group under Pam Tyler (Tysam). Hannah handled our PBGV baby CHARBONNEL COCO to 4th in the Hound Puppy Group too, after her BOB and BP win under Karen Higgins. It was a long day, made more pleasurable by watching some promising pups in other breeds that we don't normally see very often, like the Pugs,Mexican Hairless and Shiba Inu. We never stop learning......
6/5/07
Cheshire Cocker Spaniel Club champ show and a super win for our friends Mike Wildman and Edith Fowles when their dog Lindridge Ticket to Ride won the Dog C.C., his first, under judge Debbie Sawko (Avandora). He moved as though he could go all day, a true gundog, powerful and active. A very popular win....
June and Bill Henderson won the R.C.C with Pendledell Salvatore too, so a super day for both of them, and so well-deserved, both dogs put down to the letter and moving really well. Really thrilled for you all.
Our Frankie won Veteran dog under Debbie Sawko, there was no Best Veteran in Show award, and Charbonnel Black Dove was 2nd in Black Novice bitch.
Congratulations to all those owners of progeny from my dogs who enjoyed winning and being placed or shortlisted in some big classes. You all had them looking superb....
30/4/07
I started hip-scoring a long time ago, and have submitted the X-rays on every occasion. So when I had Lulu and Babs X-rayed last month the X-rays were sent off as usual, although I could see that one was much better than the other.
Today I had the results, and while I should have been turning cart-wheels over one I was disappointed over the other. Lulu (Pinny'n'Pearls) returned as our FIRST PERFECT HIP SCORE 0:0 !!!! I was absolutely over the moon.....the closest we have ever been was Jill and Johnny's 3:3 and Kitty and Bomber's 4:2, so that was wonderful. The down side was that Babs (Starlette) returned as a 19:13, which was unexpected prior to seeing the X-ray, but there you go, I was slightly prepared when I saw the X-ray as I could see that her hips were nothing like as good as Lulu's. As she is from lines that have been screened low for many generations I am hoping it is a one off. She is a very sound strong bitch with superb muscle mass and is exceptionally busy, so its not as though she is suffering....at WELKS I did not sit around the ring watching, but I did see 3 cockers who were lame behind when I happened to watch the judging as I walked past or while I was in the ring myself, so there are problems out there that are presenting themselves for all to see. Luckily, Babs is not, and never has been, lame. The PLUS is that at least I have looked and I know. How many don't bother ? I can make decisions about her future based on these results and move forward. As my Chinese proverb book tells me : " IF YOU FIND A PATH WITHOUT OBSTACLES IT PROBABLY DOES NOT LEAD ANYWHERE " Meanwhile I need to tell those who want a pup from Lulu about the good news !! 27/4/07
A fresh, dry day at WELKS, and the first outdoor general championship show of the year. I won my first Championship show PUPPY class at WELKS in 1980 with Sonic Sailor at Charbonnel under Doreen Robertson (Nostrebor) when he was just turned 6 months and had quite a wavy thick red coat, but I remember she put in her critique in the paper that I had done the right thing in not rushing his coat and leaving it until it was ready....I remember feeling quite proud that such an eminent judge had complimented me on my presentation skills !
Our youngsters did well by getting placed in big puppy classes: Jack was 3rd out of 16 and Poppy was 2nd out of 17,and Babs was 2nd in a Limit class of 11. Congratulations must go to Angie Hackett who bred the Dog CC, Lindridge Star Quest and Res Dog CC, Lindridge Ticket to Ride, owned by Mike and Edith.

Not wanting to tackle the traffic on the motorway, my friends Paul, Mike, Edith and Andy put the world to rights and enjoy a laugh or two before setting off for home... 26/4/07
I thought I'd include this photo of CHARBONNEL TRINKETTE AT KELADITY in my news page as I feel she is looking really well at the moment, having had a litter. Thanks to Kelly and Adam for sending it.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say a 'thank you' to those friends who have dogs from me who have undertaken to test and screen their dogs for PRA, FN and HD. I'm pleased that so far the results have all been favourable, and that we can all move on together in producing typical cockers with good temperaments and health combined.

Our latest young bitch, CHARBONNEL BLACK DOVE had a successful day today at Gundog Club of North Wales, winning Best Puppy in Breed under breed specialist Carol Share-Jones, and Best Puppy in Show under Mrs.P.Brigden. Lindsays Charbonnel Fair Flair avec Amaranth was 3rd in the Puppy class too.

Frankie-boy had another wonderful day at East Anglian Cocker Club, once again winning Best Veteran in Show, and being short-listed into the last 4 for the C.C., enjoying every moment as usual. Photo by Ian Scott to follow.....
Our Frankie son, CHARBONNEL WAR HERO, who is FN clear and from 2 Optigen A1 parents, was 3rd in the Puppy Dog class, which was pleasing.....Jack is SO much like his dad in temperament and demeanour, so easy to live with, and so sweet and kind. He loved all the attention he received from these little girls he was photographed with - his tail wagged every time they walked past him, until they just HAD to make a fuss of him !!

Lindsay came to help us today, so we took some photos of Lottie, CHARBONNEL FAIR FLAIR avec Amaranth (CHARBONNEL INTERLORD x CHARBONNEL FAIR ROUGE) while the sun was out.
She was shown at Cocker Club of Scotland championship show at the weekend, but didn't get placed. We think she is a very promising bitch though, and Lindsay does an excellent job of her presentation, although she still has some coat to come out she is just right for her age, and we are very proud of her.

Many thanks to Tracey and Chelsea for sending this latest photo of their latest Charbonnel pup Roxy - CHARBONNEL DO'S 'N' DON'TS. ( Lindridge Ticket to Ride x Charbonnel Girls'n'Pearls) She is maturing steadily into a promising show prospect.

Today, at the International show in Luxembourg, Patrice and Danielle's Int.Lux.Fr.Swiss Show Ch.CHARBONNEL DESERT GOLD won CACIB and BOB, in an entry of 80 cockers– Judge : Mr Klemann (Germany)
The Hanson family's CHARBONNEL SUZETTE -Blondie - gained her second CAC at the show, and is now a Luxembourg Champion !
WELL DONE TO YOU ALL......
ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
30/3/07 Our latest hip score result is for Charbonnel Fair Femme - a creditable 3 :4, so we are very pleased. Through her dam, Fair Rouge, Dash is 7 generations removed on her 'bottom line' from Sonic Sailor of Charbonnel, my first solid dog born in 1979. All seven generations have been scored. Then through her dam's sire Roulette, the pedigree goes back to my first cocker bitch Ernedene Royal Regalia of Charbonnel born in 1977. Of those 8 generations, 6 have been hip-scored.Dash is by Double Dutch who is himself scored, and of course his parents were both scored in Europe, and their forebears too.
Those breeders who do not hip score often think that those who DO do it because they are having problems with lameness or consider their dogs to be unsound. Nothing could be further from the truth.!! I do it because I want to know what I am dealing with, and I have always set myself goals in life...without something to work towards, what challenges are there in life ? All health testing has it's ups and downs, nobody knows better than me, but how pleasing it is when things work out right.
I have X-rayed 2 more bitches since Dash, one looks really good, the other may score a bit higher, but at least I can work accordingly, and use the knowledge I have from actually LOOKING to check for problems, and move forward. If only more breeders in the UK hip-scored, it would open the options for those like me who do not want to chance using unscored dogs....
Check out this link to see some X-rays of hips and learn a bit more about HD, bearing in mind that this is just one of many articles on the net, written by just one of thousands of veterinary 'experts'
And don't forget :
The road to success is always under construction.........!!!

24/3/07 Just over 9 weeks ago I received a phone call from Marjut Kakko, kennel Margate, Finland, asking me if I would consider sending fresh chilled semen from Interlord to Finland for her to have her Int.Ch.Margate Cor Blimey inseminated. This was a first for my kennel, but I was of course willing to help in the venture.....I do not know Babett but looking at her photo I felt that Teddy would suit her well, and Marjut has admired Teddy and wanted his particular lines, and of course he is Optigen A1 and FN tested clear, with a low hip score. So,the deed was done, and thanks to Tiinna and her expertise Babett whelped 4 fat black pups today !! Congratulations Marjut....I admire you for going for what you wanted no matter what !! 23/3/05 Thank you Flora for giving us these 3 delightful bitch pups by Harry (Charbonnel Double Dutch) They are now 7 weeks old and still we cannot hold them still long enough to stand them for photos. Their tails just don't stop, we just don't want to suppress that true cocker attitude and merriness, just for the sake of a couple of photos....I'm sure eventually they'll stand still!

Thanks to
Evelyne Dutour,

letting us know

An enjoyable day out
at North of England
CS Club Open show
for our dogs today
under Heather
Gibson. Babs (
C.Starlette) won her
Special Yearling
bitch class, Teddy (Interlord)
was 2nd in Open Dog,
Young Poppy (C.Black
Dove, Warlord x Goes
Dutch ) took a
well-filled Minor
Puppy Bitch class,
while Jack, (C.War
Hero) her litter
brother, had to be
content with a 3rd
in MP Dog. I am SO
pleased with this
young dogs progress,
to say he is very
like Warlord in
shape and attitude
is perhaps sticking
my neck out, but he
has the stature that
I so like in a male,
with good length of
leg, an arch to his
neck, clean
shoulders and
substance right
through, and his
angulation behind,
which was lacking a
couple of months
ago, has developed
now, the angles are
there and he has a
really good sweep of
stifle and width to
his thigh. With his
Optigen A1 parents
and his own clear FN
status I am hoping
he will be another
useful addition to
my kennel. Yes, he
is Interlords full
brother, but he has
some different
qualities....HORSES
FOR COURSES !!!!.
Just got to tackle
that coat.....
Congratulations to
Teddy's son and
daughter Quintavia
Time Lord and
Charbonnel Fair
Flair who had to
battle it out in one
class and came 1st
and 2nd
respectively... It
was lovely to see
Peggy, C.Playtime at
Q, trotting round
the ring in the
Veteran class, she
looked really well !
15/3/07
Flora's three bitch
pups are coming on
really well....we'll
hopefully have some
stance photos
soon...presently
they are not keen on
standing still !!
14/3/07CONGRATULATIONS to Fiona Culatto in Spain who now has the FN test results from Antagene for Charbonnel Marinette (C.Double Dutch x Charbonnel Minuette) and Charbonnel Cute'n'Cuddly ( Terriles Tonuelo x C.Girls'n'Pearls) - they have both returned CLEAR 13/3/07
