17/12/05Very proud to hear some good news from Finland today. The young Deerhound dog Charbonnel Eli (C.Cappi x C.Dylis ) who I own in partnership with Eija Kaipainen won his 2nd C.C. and the title of Junior Winner 05 at the Finnish Winner show. In Scandinavia the competition isn't as tough for the C.C.'s as the champions are not eligible to compete for them, only for the Best of Sex and Best of Breed, but I hear that Eli has grown into a handsome young dog. I hope that maybe I will see him when I judge in Finland in 2006. Results here 15/12/05WONDERFUL NEWS FROM OPTIGEN - KITTY (C. PASH 'N' FRUIT) SHIRLEY (C. SHIRLEY) AND BRONTE (C. FAIR ROUGE) ALL RETURNED A1 NORMAL/CLEAR FOR THE PRCD FORM OF PRA. THIS NOW MEANS THAT EVERY CHARBONNEL COCKER IN MY KENNEL IS EITHER A1 ,NORMAL/CLEAR, OR FROM 2 A1 NORMAL/CLEAR PARENTS. HOW LUCKY AM I ??? In accordance with OptiGen's recommendations, the next step is to test all the progeny of A1 parents before breeding, so this is what I intend to do next....... 11/12/05To put the icing on a wonderful weekend, Kelly Simmonds won BoB at Coventry Gundogs Premier Open show with Charbonnel Promises at Keladity under Mrs C F O'Callaghan (Merryborne). 24 cockers turned up on the day,so a good win for them....Well done. Meanwhile, over in Belgium, the Hansons were having a superb day with their dogs, and especially the new gold puppy bitch from us - Charbonnel Suzette - at the Belgian Spaniel Club CAC Show . The judge : Mr Petr Studenik ("Black Petrs"), Czechoslovakia. Total entries 68. Charbonnel Suzette won 1st Very Promising, BOB Puppy, Best In Show Puppy, and her grand-father "Z' Billy Boy du Domaine d'Haïsha" was Reserve Best Male (RCAC) and with 6 of his progeny BIS Progeny Group.
Lux. Ch. Z'Billy Boy du Domaine d'Haisha Charbonnel Suzette 10/12/05Really "over the moon" today - after a run of 5 (or is it 6?)Reserve C.C's and 2 C.C.'s, Mike and Edith's young blue dog CHARBONNEL SHAKE'N'STEVENS headed a wonderful entry of 95 males (127 entered) at Ladies Kennel Assoc. Champ show to win the C.C. and his crown !! This is my first parti-colour champion in the UK, and the 10th UK home-bred show champion for our small kennel. Thanks to Mike for his superb presentation, and to Edith for her unstinting care of Jamie, I am so pleased for you....and also thanks to the judge Mrs. Lesley Spencer (Terriles). Details of results here: Higham Press Show Results : LKA 2005 - Spaniel (Cocker) 06/12/05Good news from Lindsay Norris, Charbonnel Sugar'n'Spice at Amaranth's hip score has come back as a low 7:6. She has also tested A1 (normal/clear) with Optigen. 03/12/05Cilla won a very coveted RCC today at London Cocker Spaniel Club, behind the Top Cocker for 2005,Sh.Ch.Asquannes Gizane. Thanks to judge Mr. Richmond Weir, Weirdene, for his opinions on the day. In a Minor Puppy bitch class of 35, YES 35, my little Charbonnel Duette was Reserve, for which I was very proud. Teddy let the side down completely, his brains having shifted to his nether regions, he just wanted to get back to his girls and so didn't move with his usual 'composure' (well his version of composure anyway). My favourite artist Anne Zoutsos had a display of paintings there and she was attempting to finish her latest portrait for me, that of Cilla. Here is the finished work, well up to Anne's usual high standard. 'Cilla' will join my other 7 paintings from Anne. Why not treat yourself to one of Anne's portraits? I have to say that of all the doggy possessions I have these paintings are the ones I hold most dear, and I get hours of pleasure from them. They are also much-admired by visitors to our home.....
Great news from Lindsay Norris - Her little blue bitch Charbonnel Sugar'n'Spice at Amaranth won BIS at Potteries and DCS today. Well done !!! 28/11/05Hattie's hip-scored returned...another low score - 6 : 4
27/11/05Today saw one of the most delightful little creatures we have ever had the pleasure to rear leave our premises to go to a new home. 'Mabel' (the sable) was the result of a mis-alliance between one of my cocker dogs and our PBGV bitch who at her last season showed no sign of ever being ready to mate and so was left un-mated (we thought !! ) Hence the litter of one...Garbo must have just still been ovulating when she was returned to the company of all the other Charbonnel's....and we were presented with Mabel 9 weeks later. Today she left for her new home with Rob and Barbara, who kindly gave a donation to the EFNF in lieu of payment. Thank you so much !
Photos show Mabel stacked like a PBGV and from the front. The hair 'underneath' on her sides and head are already a light dun colour, and she is changing daily.. So my sable came from a crossing between a cocker dog who carries Black and Tan and a European short-legged sable /white hound bitch. Where did the others in Europe come from I wonder? 26/11/05A successful day at Coventry Cocker Club when Cilla won her 5th C.C. under Mike Masters (Manchela) Photo shows Cilla and the bitch R.C.C. winner Avandora Ms. Dynamite.
16/11/05Pleased to say that my young black dog Charbonnel Interlord's hip score was returned today at 7:6, which is again below the Breed Mean Score for the year, so I am well pleased with that...now Teddy can happily run his little legs off down the fields without me shouting after him " Watch your hips " !!!!!!! As if he has ever listened........
14/11/05Pleased to say that little Kitty's hip-score has just come back - a very low 4 : 2, which is great. She has just been mated to an OptiGen A1 dog, so keeping our fingers crossed for another blue litter later on in the year ..... 13/11/05
SUCCESS: 11/11/05Please take a look at the latest news on the EFNF website. 01/11/05The November EFNF auction is live and waiting for your bids. All items this month would make good Christmas gifts. Please take a look 29/10/05Today was gundog day at Midland Counties - breed judge Annie Kettle. We had a pleasing day all in all. Young Interlord, my Warlord son, won Junior dog, despite being bitten on the head by a young blue dog while awaiting examination by the judge in the ring. Luckily Teddy's excellent temperament stood him in good stead, as he did nothing to provoke the attack, and when it happened he just sat and took it, without a murmur of retaliation. The blue dogs owner apologised and removed him from the ring. I was just so proud of my young lad, that he behaved so well, 200% in every way. Then to show so well and take the class, without a hint of what had happened to him.....I chatted with the blue dogs owner later, we have known each other for years, no hard feelings. Things could have been a lot worse had the skin been broken. Our 2 Double Dutch/Lynette daughters did well first time out in the Minor Puppy bitch class, Puds (Duette - B/T) taking 3rd, ably handled by Mike, and Babs (Starlette - black) taking 5th. Cilla was not placed for the first time in her life, but that's dog showing for you - you have to take the rough with the smooth !! We live to show another day... Kelly and Adam Simmonds were thrilled to bits to qualify their Charbonnel Promises at Keladity at Midland Counties, winning 2nd in Special Yearling and only being beaten by the current Top Cocker.... WELL DONE to you all!! That coat is looking beautiful Kelly, she is a credit to you ...
Kelly & Ginny 16/10/05Today was the 75th Anniversary of the North Wales Cocker Spaniel Club and to celebrate they held a wonderful Open show where all the refreshments were free, and there was increased prize money and a beautiful cake made by Dot Waite ( Nosana.) There was a great atmosphere and an excellent entry for judge Janetta Fairburn to put her hands over. BIS was Lesley Spencer's Terriles Tonuelo and RBIS was our Cilla. Thanks to the officers and committee of the NWCSC for their their generous cheques of £75 for BIS and £50 for RBIS. Our £50 has been donated to the EFNF. Photo is of Teddy, Charbonnel Interlord, our young Warlord son, who won 3 classes and behaved impeccably and loved every minute!!
16/10/05Today I received the following news from Danielle Raquin who owns Charbonnel Desert Gold in France : I'm thrilled to let you know that today Danny obtained the qualification Very Good in the Open Stake Field Trial in Sardent (France). This makes him International and French Show Champion ! I'm very proud and I hope you are too. That goes without saying Danielle ! Well done to Danny and Patrice, we are all very aware of the difficulty of training a gundog and then showing him in full show coat. True dedication....... Hopefully I will have a photo of Danny 'in action' sometime... 14/10/05The icing on the cake !! Cilla won her 4th C.C. at Driffield Championship show today under breed-specialist Neil Woods (Kelfield). Dog C.C and BoB was Kim Gains Sh.Ch.Claramand Rock'n'Roll at Molkara.
12/10/05Today Cappi went to a new home where he will have so much more exercise and attention than I can give him at the moment. His new owner made a sizeable cheque donation to the European FN Fund in lieu of payment, for which I am very grateful. Behave yourself Cappi, and enjoy that beach!!
12/10/05Have we bred our first sable puppy?? VERY interesting!!!
09/10/05
Sh. Ch. Charbonnel Silhouette Terriles Tonuelo A GREAT day at West of England Cocker Club when our Cilla - Charbonnel Silhouette- won her 3rd C.C. under breeder/judge Mrs. Jane Mitchell (Glowhil),becoming a SHOW CHAMPION on the day. She is the 3rd black bitch from the Warlord x Amorette liason to gain her title, of which I am VERY proud. Thank you Frankie and Noodle ! The day was made even more complete when Lesley Spencer won her 1st C.C. under the dog judge Derek Shapland with Terriles Tonuelo, and he also won BIS. Well Done !! Mike Wildman's Charbonnel Shake'n'Stevens was 3rd in his class, and showed extremely well with verve and enthusiasm, so pleased that he is now enjoying himself again. Our youngster Interlord behaved exceptionally well for him and notched up a 4th in Junior. He is a tremendously powerful young dog, but still with the brain of a puppy....when the two properties come together and he learns to contain all that enthusiasm - WATCH OUT !!! Check out the WECSC/Championship Show 2005 07/10/05Please take some time to look up the website www.scalibor.co.uk which highlights the risk of the fatal disease leishmaniasis (which is a zoonosis) and helps you to protect your dog from it and other tick/fly-borne diseases when in Europe, especially the south of the continent. There is a very real threat from this disease to both man and beast, and it is important to stress that this is on the increase within Europe. If you are considering going to Southern Europe to show, or on holiday, or are considering bringing a dog from a country where the sandfly is common, e.g. Spain, please find out as much as you can about protecting your dog. A cocker I exported was very ill with Leishmaniasis, was nursed back to health in that country, but eventually died from it 5 years later. There is also some info on the disease on my Health Matters page - click here. 06/10/05Good news from Kelly Simmonds (Keladity cockers) Her Charbonnel Trinkette at Keladity 's Optigen result has come back Normal/Clear and Charbonnel Promises of Keladity has a hip score of 6:5 (She is from 2 Optigen A1/Clear parents and so does not need to be tested at Optigen). Thanks for continuing on with the health testing Kelly. 01/10/05What a brill way to spend the first day of October - soaking up the sun in Gib with friends and dogs !! Pictured are Amanda Cardoo, Fiona Culatto and me, with Lucy and Milly (Charbonnel Mariette). Thanks to Fiona, her family and her friends, we had a wonderful weekend. Thanks Fi ....xx
22/09/05Buffy's 4 blue bitch pups by Terriles Tonuelo are now 12 days old. This is another litter from OptiGen A1/clear parents. Sorry, these are all spoken for.....!!!
10/09/05Thanks to the Norsk Spaniel Club for making me so welcome and to the exhibitors for their sportsmanship. I was really pleased with the exhibits shown under me, certainly my BD and BB in cockers were typical cobby, strong little dogs in neat, sturdy packages, with good width and muscling.
BIS Norsk Spaniel Club - Kristin Handelands bitch Claudette Quite Sure Best Dog in Cocker Spaniels Elin Borgersens Skjervtun's Time to Move On.His sire ,Travis Master Mine, who was by an old favourite of mine Travis Vital Spark, was 2nd BD 2nd - 4th/ 9/05What a show City of Birmingham Ch. Show was for our small kennel this year !! 2 days,2 breeds,2 2nd C.C's!!
Photo, courtesy of Ian Scott, shows judge Carol McFarlane (Maxway) with Bitch C.C. winner Charbonnel Silhouette JW Click here for a photo of Tommy, CHARBONNEL TOM CRUISE, on the PBGV pages .....he won his 2nd C.C. under hound specialist Zola Rawson at City of B'ham -he's still only 16 months old !! 28/08/05Charbonnel Interlord, our young black dog, was the only one in his class at SKC under Mr.Brian Foster,(Stormpasture) but we're pleased to say he was short-listed into the final 4 for the C.C. - not bad as he's just out of puppy. 25/08/05Once again Harry ( C. Double Dutch) has done us proud by producing some beautiful pups- this time out of Fair Rouge. These are the bitches:
This is the one sitting on the right of the picture, and my choice to run on.......not only a little model, but a little hooligan too !! 13/08/05Little Blondie was picked up by the Hanson's to join them in their small select kennel in Belgium.....good luck little one in your new home!!
Photo shows Sandy, Hannah and Harry, Blondie's sire, wishing her a safe journey. Harry was the perfect gentleman, sharing his travelling box with his little daughter, and made me proud to see his wonderful kind temperament shine through. 06/08/05Thanks to Gavin Robertson, (Soletrader) the judge elect for PBGV's at the Houndshow this year. He gave our Tommy the R.C.C. behind Ch.Willowbrae As You Like it, who is biting hard at Grace's heels in his claim for the breed record in PBGV's. 23/07/05Very pleased with our latest success with our young PBGV Charbonnel Tom Cruise !! Although there were no C.C.'s on offer there was a quality entry for judge Val Jackson at LEEDS Championship Show, and Tommy took Reserve Best Dog behind the Top Winning male, Marita and Phil's Ch.Willowbrae As You Like It... The next day Danielle and Patrice's golden cocker dog Charbonnel Desert Gold returned home to France to resume his work to gain his field qualifications. A TRUE DUAL PURPOSE COCKER!! 20/07/05' Over the moon' is an understatement of my feelings today !! I am delighted to report that at the East of England show ,under breed specialist Mrs. Alexa Brown (Metkar) ,2 Charbonnel dogs won TOP HONOURS ...namely Mike Wildman and Edith Fowles blue dog Charbonnel Shake'n'Stevens, who won the Dog C.C from Limit,( his 2nd) and Patrice and Danielle Raquins gold dog Charbonnel Desert Gold, over from France, who won the Res. Dog C.C. from Open. Both dogs are immaculately presented, and their owners do my kennel name proud by producing their dogs to such a high standard. Thank you....
18/07/05Congratulations to Lesley Spencer, Terriles, on her Optigen results...all 5 tested came back 'clear'. We are especially pleased as Girls'n'Pearls has just been mated to Tonuelo,( 2 Optigen tested A1/clear cockers, so another litter to be born at Charbonnel where the pups will not develop prcd PRA OR be carriers.....) 17/07/05One of the highlights of the cocker year - the Cocker Spaniel Club Championship show at Malvern, and I was extremely proud of the Charbonnel entry, especially as there were 4 of our dogs in the unbeaten dog line up ( one blue, one black and two reds) - Shake'n'Stevens, Interlord, Desert Gold and Double Dutch, all of whom made the 'first cut'. Congratulations to Lesley Spencer and Terriles Tonuelo who won the reserve dog CC....our Girls'n'Pearls has just 'entertained' Louis, so fingers-crossed !!
Silhouette won a very strong Limit bitch class and was also short-listed, but did not progress any further, but she moved and showed like a little star, which is all we ask.... 14/7/05A HUGE ' THANK YOU' TO PBGV JUDGE MR. ALEX MACKENZIE !! Today, at Paignton Championship show he awarded our CHARBONNEL TOM CRUISE the DOG C.C. at under 14 months of age. I am SO PROUD as he is from my first home-bred litter.... His sire CH. SOLETRADER DUNC'N'DISORDERLY won the Res Dog CC, his half-brother S. Donald Duck was BP, and the Bitch C.C. and BoB was CH. Soletrader My Aphrodisiac, who was also 4th in the hound group.

Well Done Jamie .......
Photograph shows him at Crufts 2005 winning the Dog RCC under Trevor Borman (Sonic) 11/06/05Today saw me, Hannah and my mum at the Ruthin Open Show...it was a wonderfully sunny day, and poor Hannah was rushed off her feet running from the Gundog ring to the Hound ring and back all day..... Teddy (C. Interlord) was awarded Best Puppy in Breed and went on to win the Gundog Puppy Group (thanks to Wendy Minshull, Sidelock ESS and Labs, and David Sheilds, Wilholme Cockers, GSP's and Border Terriers). Tommy our PBGV was 2nd in a large Open class, and little Bessie Beagle on her first outing was Best Beagle Puppy, Hound Puppy Group winner, judge Sue Denver, and according to Frank Kane ,the BIS judge, was considered to be his 3rd choice for BPIS, just beaten for the Reserve spot by a lovely Australian Terrier pup. Not bad for 6 months old...ably handled by Hannah I have to add. Hannah was also occupied running the Irish Setter ' Celyn' for her owner, and did a very good job (NO, I 'm not biased....!!)
Photo shows our 'show team' arriving at the ringside...Tommy already 'giving voice' (as stated in the standard, ' good voice, freely used ' !! ) poor old Teddy already squashed but as usual just accepting his lot, and Bessie Beagle ' in charge'... 10/06/05Beautiful day today, so Lyn's pups by Harry went out in the puppy pen to enjoy the sun. I 'm really thrilled with these pups at the moment, all have very balanced heads and tight, dark eyes......three little sweethearts ! All three are very typical of Harry's get, strong, short, good bone and out-going characters.
06/06/05I would like to congratulate Hannah on taking, and passing, her K.C. CONFORMATION AND MOVEMENT HANDS ON ASSESSMENT under Yvonne Billows, Kennel Club Accredited Trainer. At 12 years of age Hannah must be one of the youngest enthusiasts to take part in this examination and pass, so I am really proud of her.....her success follows many hours of 'swotting' on different, very patient, live models !! Thanks to Johnny, Bryan, Bessie and Espa for your co-operation ..... I'm pleased, and relieved to say that I also passed the examination.!! Thanks Jan for making this facility available to us ... 06/06/05NEWS FROM THE DOMAINE d'HAISHA KENNEL :

Charbonnel Desert Gold 31/5/05Great news from OptiGen - they have found the gene responsible for prcd PRA!! Please see their press release here. Do you have cockers that are already tested by Optigen? Would you be interested in putting your A/A1 dogs & bitches on a reference register? There is a one off charge of £5.00 (proceeds to the ENFN) to put each male on the new register, bitches will be listed free of charge. This list needn't be limited to the UK, other countries can be included too! Each cocker can be featured with a photo, Sire & Dam's details, owners email and/or mobile/cell phone. NO addresses or land-line telephone numbers will be given (for security reasons). If the dog/bitches are hip scored then those details can be added along with any other health screening results. This list is not meant as anything more than a reference tool for those out there who want to find a quality dog who also has the added bonus of prcdPRA clearance by OptiGen ... It is not meant to set anyone apart, but hopefully will encourage those who haven't dipped their toes into the water to take the plunge ... To see the list of OptiGen A/A1 dogs please click here! 31/5/05The European Familial Nephropathy Fund (EFNF) now has a dedicated web site of its own! Click here to visit the site. 28/5/05
Charbonnel Shake 'n' Stevens - March 2004 Congrats to Mike and Edith and Charbonnel Shake'n'Stevens for winning ANOTHER R.C.C at Bath Championship show today under breed specialist Sandra Williams (Wilmerella)......... That makes 5 reserve C.C.'s now.....hopefully he won't always be the bridesmaid !! I couldn't go to the show due to other commitments, but I heard that Jamie showed beautifully, so well done little man.....14/5/05 - 20/5/05
Sandy with Dr. Lees (handing over the money!) I had a wonderful stay at the National Specialty in the USA, meeting old friends (well, not-so-old, more 'mature' !!) and making quite a few new ones. Thank you so much for your welcome and for the accommodating way in which you accepted us and our comments about your show scene !! This was the second time I had visited the USA, the first time was to judge in California, I think in 1998, and then I was not allowed near any dogs before I judged, so I had not realised just how much time the exhibitors spend on presentation.
Certainly showing in the US is VERY different to our show scene in the UK, much more serious in it's outlook, dogs with not ONE HAIR out of place, and everyone so smartly dressed. The dogs spend a lot more time on the table at shows, being put down to the absolute minute, with bandaged ears and clippered fronts, and being bathed each morning, and I have to say they were immaculate........They also showed their heads off; I can count on one hand the number of dogs who looked bored or didn't wag their tails, most were exceptionally happy and obviously well-loved.
One of the main reasons for my visit was to meet Dr. Lees and hand over some money for the FN research being carried out in the US. I am happy to say that on behalf of the contributors to the EFNF, from all over Europe, I handed over $ 4225 , which is £2316 or 3358 Euros. The Cocker Club of Scotland, The Cocker Club, and Mrs. Palmer were also acknowledged for their wonderful contributions to the cause. It has been a HUGE concerted effort from the UK and Europe and it felt good to tell the audience at the meeting that we are committed to carry on, with £2000 + in the bank account to pay for any work done in Belgium too.
A HUGE THANK YOU to all those people who have donated items to sell on the auction or at shows, who have bought on the on-line auction, who have bought stickers or Year Books, of course to all those who have donated money, to Mary Rayne for running the auction, to Carol and Sabine Hanson in Belgium for all their hard work and to Chris Pritchard for keeping the site running smoothly and free of charge. It was a wonderful moment to see Dr. Lees smile and to know that ALL this money is going to help find the gene mutation which will enable us to test our dogs for the possibility of being affected by, or being a carrier of ,FN.
During the week there was also an auction of a beautiful painting of 2 Lochranza dogs which was donated by John and Jean Gillespie. This realised over $3000, again for FN research, so a MASSIVE thank you to you both. The Boutique was also stocked up with donated items, including 2 sets of glass coasters donated by Colin Smith, so this generated more funds, and the stickers sold well and Karen Spurlin, Treasurer of the ECSCA has some more to sell if anyone is interested.
The FANTASTIC NEWS is that Dr. Murphy believes that ,if the mutation is where he thinks it is, and he has narrowed the search down considerably, we could be looking at only another 12 months before he can say he has found it, and then only a couple of weeks before the DNA test is developed. The test will be a simple buccal swab test from cheek cells, and I am hoping that these will be easy to get into the USA, through customs, with the right paperwork. Otherwise maybe we can set something up in Europe using any funds we have.
The photos show Dr. George Lees, me -Sandy Platt and Addi Pittman, the wonderful health co-ordinator for the ECSCA who has helped me SO much. As you can see Dr. Lees was very happy to accept the money and thanked you, the European enthusiasts, VERY much for your enthusiasm and continued support of his research into this disease. WE WILL SEE A TEST FOR THIS DISEASE, AND IN TIME, IF EVERYONE SCREENS THEIR DOGS ( EITHER IF THERE IS ANY SUSPICION OF ITS PRESENCE IN THEIR LINES, or JUST TO KNOW THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS LURKING) WE CAN ERADICATE IT FROM A LARGE PROPORTION OF THE BREED. There will always be a nucleus of puppy farmer -bred dogs and pets who will never be tested, but who knows, with education and advice from interested breeders and enthusiasts, maybe we can work on those too? PLEASE keep up your support for the EFNF as you have already, and tell as many people as you can about the on-line auction and year books etc. We have some lovely items coming up in June, not all cocker orientated, so please tell anyone who may be interested.... ALSO, please visit the Domaine d'Haisha site:

Visit the FN fundraising page for some great news !! If YOU have a good idea about how to raise money to help with the fund, or you have items to donate, please email me or Carol Hanson in Belgium, she is going to start selling some items which are in other languages other than English, and who knows, maybe other items too ?.... domaine.haisha@skynet.be 26/04/05 Next OptiGen clinic is May 9th - 13th. Click here to visit their site for all the details. 25/4/05Lyn's pups are 3 days old and thanks to Hannah's expert care yesterday, while I was at the show, they are developing into BFP's (Big Fat PUDDINGS !!) Now that I have Charbonnel Double Dutch ,'one of each' no longer means one black and one gold !! We have 3 bitches - one gold, one black and one black and tan !! (again .....thanks Harry !!) These pups are from total Optigen A1 parentage, so the nearest to 100% clear of PRA that you can get !
24/4/05We had a great day at East Anglian Cocker Club championship show, thanks to judges Sally Ellison, 'Withiflor' ,dogs, and Virginia Lyne, 'Ranzfel', Canada, bitches. The little gold bitch spent 4 days on the 'critical list' at a week of age, so a little smaller, but no less active !!
09/4/05Thanks to Mike and Hannah I had a successful trip to Scotland, to the Cocker Club of Scotland's Champ show. Cilla won a good limit class under Sue Kettle., the black baby Teddy was awarded 1st in MPD under Marisa Elorza (Spain) and Harry won 2nd in Limit. Mary Rayne and I were able to catch up on the auction news and fund-raising for the FN Fund, and Pam Halkett kindly brought some items to sell for the fund - many thanks.!!
07/04/05" A critic is a person who knows the way, but can't drive the car " - to read more see here! 01/04/05Wonderful news from OptiGen - our Charbonnel Minuette, Milly, is Optigen A1. She is by Warlord, A1, out of Laurette, litter sister to Roulette, A1, so I was hoping for a favourable result. This brings our total tested to 12 now, all A1. Congratulations also to Tracey, Quintavia Cockers, who tested 3 dogs from pure Charbonnel parentage and again had all A1's bringing her total tested to 8, all A1! No one can say we are not trying!! 29/03/05See photos of Mavis's 2 dog pups by Avandora Ladykiller at 6 weeks old here.12/03/05We are very proud that Mike Wildman and Edith Fowles won the Reserve Dog CC at Crufts 2005 with their lovely blue dog Charbonnel Shake 'n' Stevens, which takes his tally up to 3 R.C.C's now. In bitches, our black Silhouette won a Post Graduate class of 25 bitches, and our young red Fair Rouge came a creditable 3rd out of 15 in special yearling ( awaiting photos from overseas please...HINT ,HINT !! ). Congratulations also to Lynsey Norris who came 3rd in her class of 16 with her dark blue bitch Charbonnel Sugar'n'Spice at Amaranth and to Tracey Herd with Charbonnel Silk'n'Rose at Quintavia who was short-listed in the puppy bitch class. Of course a special ' Well Done' to the Raquin's red dog Charbonnel Desert Gold who came from France to take 2nd in a hotly contested Open dog class...he didn't put a foot wrong!

An enjoyable day out at Cheshire Cocker Club Open Show under Mr. Andrew Pretty (Joaldy) where all 3 of our blacks won their classes. The 3 included mother and son Charbonnel Goes Dutch- Teasel- and Charbonnel Interlord -Teddy. Teasel has not been shown for a good while, so needed the run out, and Teddy was making his first appearance 'under rules' !! He really enjoyed himself too. As you can see from the photo he is very deep and square with good bone. Hannah set him up for the photo, and her priority was keeping him still rather than forcing him into a perfect show pose !!

I have received the wonderful news from Mr. Sam Kennedy, Treasurer of the Cocker Club of Scotland, that the club has proposed and seconded a donation of £2000 to the English Cocker Spaniel Club of America's FN Fund, researching into the disease with the hope of developing a test for carriers of the disease. What a wonderful gesture - thank you so much for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Are there any more clubs out there, in the UK or overseas, who can help in this way ?? Do contact me or the ECSCA direct from their web-site on www.ecsca.org for more information on how you can help........ 29/1/05
Had a great day out at the Pedigree Chum Stakes Final today - thanks to my wonderful mate Carol for driving and inviting me to accompany her. To be surrounded by quality dogs and some of dogdoms most dedicated people, and to be fed and watered for free too - who could ask for more ?? While I was sitting watching others working, my fellow 'Charbonnel fans' were busy bringing in the spoils - Tracey Herd won BPIS at West of England Cocker Open Show with her blue Heidi - Charbonnel Silk'n'Rose at Quintavia - and Sally Ellison won BIS with Frankie's son Withiflor White Knight. Well done, and thanks to judge George Parker, 'Weyhill'.

On a lighter note........we had a superb family holiday, and if I learnt nothing else, I did learn that camels are the most affectionate, gentle giants imaginable !! We visited a farm where camels are kept and bred from while having time off from tourist rides. They only have one calf in a lifetime, which they suckle for 6 years !! The females were sweet, gentle and loving, and I fell in love with them and their huge liquid eyes.
