Hound News - 2008

SO proud of our deerhound youngster FLISS who won the Reserve Bitch CC at LKA today under judge Angela Randall (Hammonds) from the junior class.A wonderful end to the year !!

Great news from Finland too : Eija Kaipainen has written to say that her daughter of INT CH.CHARBONNEL BALLAD ,Swordgrove Gia,was BOB and gained Nordic Winner -09 title at the Helsinki International (Nordic Winner) show judged by Mr Jeff Horswell (Drakesleat, UK). Her excellent critique as follows : Lovely bitch of super type. Lots of power & strength. Real hunting type. Lovely head. Thick, strong neck. Very good front. Well sprung ribs. Super topline. Strong quarters. Excellent mover.

So pleased that Glenda's legacy lives on in her progeny Eija !

Today was the Deerhound Club's Limited show, with a good entry of approximately a hundred hounds.Fliss won Junior bitch and as usual behaved and showed like a seasoned campaigner.
As always the applause was forthcoming for every class, there was a super raffle and FANTASTIC food !!

Fliss won her junior class today at Richmond champ show under breed specialist Hector Heathcote (Hyndsight)...photo below shows her with her sister Feather (Feather nearest the camera) 3 days later, down on the meadows......

Our PBGV Coco was awarded the reserve CC in bitches today at Welsh Kennel Club champ show. Many thanks to breed specialist judge Gavin Robertson (Soletrader).Fliss was 2nd in Deerhound junior bitch under breed judge Cathy Codd.

There were Charbonnel Hounds and Gundogs at Blackpool this year, and it was the hounds who fared better under their respective judges....
Coco, our only PBGV, was 1st in Post Grad bitch and moved really well for judge George Johnston.I think she was carrying just a little too much weight ( hormones !!!) to go further on the day,but we were very pleased with her placing and feel she is now maturing well..........

Feather,Fliss's litter sister, was the only one in the deerhound bitch puppy class, and she was placed 1st by judge Pat Aird, who was very complimentary about her condition, but as the judge did not declare a Best Bitch puppy and just judged Best Puppy from the 3 puppy class winners ,awarding it to the only dog puppy present,it felt more like a training exercise than a competition to be honest. But Feather enjoyed her time in the ring, behaving well......

Our PBGV bitch COCO was shown for the first time in a long while today, and we were very proud to win the Post Graduate class under judge Mr.George Johnston. Feather, our 'other' deerhound bitch, and Fliss's litter sister, was the only one in the Puppy bitch class, so she was placed first, and as the judge Mrs.Pat Aird did not declare a Best Bitch Puppy we came away feeling a little 'flat' as she really did not 'compete against anyone' today. However she behaved impeccably in the ring, which was the main thing.

Fliss won BPIB again at Border Union, this time under breed specialist Mr Brian Doak (Rosslyn). Photos by Glenis Peach, thank you Glen.....

After all the bad luck I've had with my deerhounds over the years I swore I'd never EVER have another litter, but then when I judged young Greyflax the Mighty Quinn I was so impressed by his raw potential that I gave him the C.C. and vowed that one day I would use him. His first C.C. from me was very soon followed by 2 more from very eminent deerhound specialists, Dr. Sarah Helps and Hector Heathcote. Thankfully Dilys produced me a lovely litter to him last year, and to cut a VERY long story short, we kept 2 bitch pups....Fliss and Feather....
Fliss made her debut at WELKS this weekend, when she thrilled me by winning her class and also Best Puppy in Breed. I would like to thank the sporting Deerhounders who clapped and congratulated me, especially when our judge, Mrs.Brenda Jarrett, awarded Fliss some lovely accolades in the Deerhound Club's own competitions after judging had finished. I had forgotten what a lovely bunch of sporting owners the show deerhound has, and I felt happy to be back within their ranks....
Below are 2 photos of Fliss....the first taken 2 nights before the show, practising in the field, and due to it being the evening, a little dark; the other taken by my friend Marion Sweeney at the show, with the beautiful Malvern Hills as a backdrop.
