"If you take a dog which is starving and feed him and make him prosperous, that dog will not bite you. This is the primary difference between a dog and a man" -  Mark Twain.

Today I sent 2 buccal swabs from Dilys, my one remaining Deerhound ,to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, to be subjected to DNA testing for Factor Vll Deficiency. She has shown no signs of this condition, but of course it's best to know what I'm working with when it comes to breeding from her, and I think now many deerhound stud dog owners will only let their tested dogs mate tested bitches. At least I'm no stranger to testing !!

Just to 'lighten the mood' here is a photo of Hannah with Loki, taken when she was about two and a half years old. You can just see Lokis injured chest where he opened it up on some barbed wire as he tried to clear a fence in pursuit of a hare...that was another disaster on a Bank Holiday !! He was the kindest soul, and Hannah loved him to bits.....Happy Birthday for the 6th love. xx

Gwen Huikeshoven of the ' van Tum-Tum's Vriendjes' kennel in Holland visited us today, along with Jan Willem Akerboom of the 'Basicdrives' kennel. Gwen is famous, with her family, for her GBGV and is a very serious European exhibitor and breeder. I was delighted that she thought our Charbonnel Cantona was good enough to join her high-class kennel!

Photos show him at 7 weeks and sitting, posing, at his new home.....

4 of the PBGV pups have gone to their new homes, and all seem to be settling well. They are active little dogs, but when they're tired they just flake out !!

Chris and Deb Blake visited us today to see the pups by their Monty (Ch.Tortworth Trezeguet at Trezeguet). I have decided to keep the little bitch in the photos below ....

The Charbonnel hounds and handlers had a very enjoyable weekend at the BGV Championship show. We didn't come home with the spoils, but we spent time with our friends, and the judges in both breeds, enjoying a pre-show meal, auctions and entertainment. Some of us also had a few bacardi and cokes !!!

The next day, show day, there was eye-testing to carry out, and pleased to say both Garbo and Tommy were clear again of PRA, PPM and Glaucoma. Congratulations to all the winners, especially Marita and Phil, Gavin and Sara, on sweeping the board in the PBGV, and to Marita and Amos for BIS.

The whole atmosphere was happy, and the show was bedecked with rosettes and flags and super-duper new ring fencing ( from the USA) The international judges were really well-looked after and I think also enjoyed their stay. I will add a link to the show results as soon as they are available.

This is the first attempt at standing Garbo's pups on the table at 5 and a half weeks, and I am really pleased with their performance...they are little treasures, all of them !!

Garbo's pups are nearly 5 weeks old, and I love them SO much, they are real little characters, and already typical hounds....Photos taken today, just after their 3rd meal of the day, so please excuse the 'mucky pup' looks !! Will start ' table training' tomorrow, standing on it, not eating at it, by the way !!

New photo of Garbs pups today, I  can't believe how these pups are growing ! Garbo is having 3 meals a day though, and she is a very milky bitch, and they are certainly seeing the benefit !!

Excellent link to learn about Dachsund conformation and movement ......

What a busy day ! Bessie decided to have her pups to Ch. Dialynne Masterpiece 5 days early.....4 little beauties graced us with their presence, 2 dogs, 2 bitches. What a superbly attentive mother Bessie is proving to be, not the little scallywag she has been up to now.......

Our precious PBGV Garbo produced 6 beautiful pups,3 dogs and 3 bitches, to Chris and Deb Blakes Ch.Tortworth Trezeguet at Trezeguet, Monty to his mates....

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Eija on achieving Charbonnel Eli's 3rd C.C. and therefore his Finnish Champion title, at Kouvola, judged by Branislav Rajic from Slovenia. Eli was also Best of Breed. This is Eija's 2nd Charbonnel deerhound title-holder, and as I am a partner in Eli he is my first home-bred co-owned deerhound champion. Thank you Eija for all your hard work. x

It's a long time since we took a photo of Dilys, so here she is at just under 4 years old. Thanks Hannah for taking time out of your busy school holidays to officiate with the camera!

To start the NEW Hound news page off I would like to congratulate Eija Kaipainen for her good wins at the Finnish Deerhound Club annual club show last Saturday. The judge was Glenis Peach of the famous Kilbourne kennel, UK.

There were 67 deerhounds entered. Glenda (Int.Ch.CHARBONNEL BALLAD ) won her VETERAN class  and she also won BIS progeny group with her youngsters on display. Eija also won BIS breeders' group (they were all Glenda's puppies) - out of  8 groups of hounds !

CHARBONNEL ELI  was 4th best dog (he had the best feet of the day, according to the judge !).
Below are photos of Glenda's group and also Eija's breeder's group.
